The Data Center Observatory (DCO) is a joint research project of EPFL, ETH Zurich and USI. The DCO cluster consists of 176 compute nodes, 2 fat nodes and additional infrastructure. Researchers have root access to the nodes for bare-metal research.

Cluster Status

The cluster is operational.

The hardware is out of warranty and the nodes 169 to 176 are permanently reserved and serve as spare parts for the rest of the nodes for the remaining life time of the cluster.

Participation

Use of the cluster is available to all researchers of the participating organizations. The only requirement is that the following is added to any publication that uses data obtained on the cluster:
This research was performed, in part, on the "Datacenter Observatory" suported by an
R'Equip grant of the Swiss National Science Foundation (206021_133835) and operated by
EPFL, ETH Zurich, and the Universita della Svizzera Italiana.

Requesting Access

To use the DCO you need a user account that is valid on the various resources of the cluster. Please contact your DCO IT coordinator to request a user account:

Getting Started

Once the user account has been created (EPFL and USI users will also receive a password) you have access to the access-restricted wiki where you can find more documentation and gain access to the booking system for the cluster.
