How to Check Your Disk Quota

This section shows you how to verify the used disk space and the disk quota (space limit) on your operating system:

Nagging Limit

For the personal and project data storage nagging limits may be active in addition to the file system quota. These limits are not enforced technically but you (and your ITC) are informed by mail when your disk usage exceeds the limits.

What is a Disk Quota?

A disk quota limits the usable disk space of each user on a file server. Home and project directories are typically located on shared storage, i.e., several users use the same 'hard disk'. The per-user disk quota ensures that:

Nobody hogs all available disk space
The risk that the available disk space runs out because of accidental growth of data is minimized
The explosive growth of user data is slowed down

Every group has their own settings and policies for disk quotas. Please contact your ITC for details.
