Remote Login
Dedicated login servers are provided for remote login via
secure shell. These servers have the same Linux installation as the workstations in the public student labs.
Remote login to the workstations in the student labs is not recommended. You never know which one currently runs Linux and somebody sitting in front of the machine may reboot it any time.
Login Servers
Etiquette
Because the login servers are used by more than one user at a time it is important that you follow these rules:
- Avoid running lengthy compute jobs, especially on multiple CPUs.
- Use
nice
or renice
if you really need to run compute jobs.
- Do not fill up
/tmp
or /local
.
Updates
These servers automatically boot after Sunday midnight every week to apply updates.
